The primary mission of Milestones is to provide an educational experience of the highest quality, while offering a safe and unique environment. The Milestones education program features small classes taught by involved, caring teachers who are responsive to the growing.
Milestones believes that the growth of knowledge is the result of individual connections made by the learner. Furthermore, we believe that complex and concrete experiences are essential for meaningful learning and teaching to occur. Using the Arizona State Standards as a base, the core of Milestones curriculum centers on children “making connections.” By using this approach, children can build upon previous knowledge to construct new meaning. In addition to the core curriculum, students will connect through music, performing and visual arts, and physical education. Milestones establishes the connection between the classroom community and the school community, by offering extra-curriculum programs which promote leadership, participation and community involvement.
All Milestones programs have educational philosophies that provide children with an environment for holistic learning, daily practice of skills, hands-on experiences, technological awareness and strong character development. These programs are designed to foster, address and support student responsibility.
The educational model is well documented and replicable and centers on small class sizes. That model focuses on presenting information in its totality, rather than in isolated parts. This prevents the children from getting stuck on individual pieces, rather than seeing the “big picture”. We feel our students are most engaged when information is presented in this way. Our educational model strives to identify and refine the student’s own personal learning style.
MILESTONE STUDENTS HAVE S.P.I.R.I.T
Milestones offers our students the chance to learn about fair play. Our students learn how to properly use appreciations for one another and for the sports in which they participate.
By enforcing a dress code and expecting our students to participate in the upkeep of our campus, we hope to instill a sense of pride in our students and pride for their school.
By teaching our students to “do the right thing simply because it is the right thing to do”, we are hoping to develop an important character trait in our students.
We want our students to learn the benefits of respecting themselves, others and materials. We insist that students treat everyone they meet with respect.
Students learn how to take responsibility for their own learning. We strive to give students the tools and desire to want to learn more than just the assignment or required task.
It is important for all of the Milestones community to exhibit tolerance. Our students will learn how to be tolerant of others. They must learn how to begin to form the work place skill of team building.
